Overview: Why in the world do you want to learn Python?
I have always asked this question since there are so many other programming languages that offer me just as many equal opportunities. So here are some of my reasons for learning a programming language.
The language shares similar methods and functions I can relate to.
I can create a program I have already created in Visual Basic in one day and learn from my mistakes.
I can test every line I write as I write it to assure the program will work exactly as I expect it to.
The language doesn’t require a lot of language ramp up time to start producing results
I can write code I know will work for years to come without having to worry that the code will stop working
I can add an additional language to my ever-growing list of languages I am capable of using to complete tasks.
Notice that I didn’t say I wanted to make money from learning Python. I place a higher priority on learning than on profiting from it. And as it turns out, Python follows a logical train of thought similar to the development steps that Visual Basic does:
Create functions
Create objects
Enumerate through collections of objects and properties, fields or attributes
Parse strings
Convert values
Use COM objects in both 32-bit and 64-bit
Well, as it turns out, Python meets and beats all of the above qualifications including doing sync and async coding synchronizations without having to do a lot of ramp up time.
And that is why I absolutely love to write code using Python.
But what about you? After all, I can only speak for myself. Plus, I already have tons of experience working with Visual Basic and other languages before I decided to jump in and learn Python.
I can only imagine what it would be like for a new programmer looking at Python for the first time and wondering: Is this something I really want to do? Where do I start.
Yes, it can be a bit scary, but let me ask you this: Did you learn how to drive a real car as a baby?
