Overview: The following morning, Anna, looking radiant and satisfied, floated into the bedroom wearing a chiffon negligee. Approaching the large double bed where Sam lay sleeping, his head pillowed on his arm, she smiled down at his tousled face and tousled hair. Perching on the edge of the bed by his side, she bent to kiss him awake, nuzzling his face and neck with her lips. Slowly, ever so slowly, he began to come around.
“Hi,” he said, still fogged. His mouth tasted like a garage floor, and the light hurt his eyes. Which made it no different from any other morning in the last fifteen years.
Anna kissed him again as he began to scratch himself awake. Then she dropped her head on his chest.
“Sam, it was wonderful,” she cooed into his ear. “It’s never been like that for me before.”
“Oh, yeah?” he asked suspiciously.
“Never,” she assured him. She sounded like a well-fed cat on a velvet pillow. “Was it good for you, too?” she asked him. “Maybe just a little?”
Sam sat up. “I’m not all that sure,” he confessed. “Maybe if you kind of reminded me…”
“Don’t tease me, Sam,” laughed Anna nervously. “It’s not fair. I know I’m not very experienced…” She tried to look into his face to read his expression. But it was too early in the morning for Sam Spade to have any expression at all, and Anna drew back, her face falling. “It wasn’t good for you, was it?” she accused in a low, hurt tone.
“It isn’t that…” Sam was completely bewildered, having no memory at all of bed with Anna. “It’s just…”
