Overview: D. N. Baltas was born in Melbourne, Australia. Raised in the fusion of Greek and Aussie, he was fortunate enough to enjoy the benefits and perspectives of both worlds – especially when it came to their stories. From a young age he was surrounded by them, from old mythology to the contemporary greats, and all of them lit in him the desire to tell his own tales one day.
As with all great (ahem) origin stories, he remembers his own that set him on the path to an adulthood of hair-pulling re-writes and a home office with a poster saying ‘hit head here’ (any writer would understand) – his eighth birthday party when his Aunt and Uncle gifted him the incomparable Mossflower, by Brian Jacques.
Since then, he’s had his own crack, with his writing inspired by his deep passion for Roman History, in particular its lesser known aspect, Byzantium. Caesar, Augustus, and Constantine are all well and good, but he sees the value in the Justinians, Belisariuses, and Procopiuses of the past, and he knows that you will to.
