Two Omnibuses by H. Beam Piper
Requirements: .ePUB reader, 1MB
Overview: H. Beam Piper (1904-64) was an engineer turned science fiction writer whose work is most closely associated with Astounding Science Fiction in the 1950s-60s, perhaps because Piper’s own personal philosophy so closely mirrored that of editor John W. Campbell, Jr. Much of Piper’s sf work falls into a consistent future history series, often referred to as the “Terrian Federation” stories. It makes use of “Atomic Era” dates, with 1 A. E. equaling our 1942. Little Fuzzy and Graveyard of Dreams belong to this series. Another sequence of tales recounts the adventures of various agents of the “Paratime Police” as they work to prevent tyranny and war across the timelines. Time Crime belongs to Piper’s Paratime series. Genesis and Operation RSVP show the author’s mind at work outside the confines of either series. Piper committed suicide in 1964 when an agent’s death tied his royalties up in legal limbo and he found himself penniless and starving.
