Overview: Following serious threats made by an escaped serial killer against one of its agents, the FBI is forced to place Eleanor Perkins, a specialist in criminal behavioral analysis, in one of its witness protection programs. The young woman is sent to England, under the protection of Agent McGill, to live under a false identity in the upmarket town of Cobham.
After five peaceful months living under their respective covers – she a writer, he a sports coach – Grace Bathgate, the neighbor with whom Eleanor has become somewhat friendly, arrives home in a panic: her daughter has disappeared. But there is no trace of this young woman, whom she abandoned at birth and about whom she knows nothing except that she had recently found and reconnected with her.
Eleanor is prepared to believe her neighbor, but when the police come to question Grace and uncover several inconsistencies in her speech, the FBI agent reverts to her old investigative reflexes and tries to sort out the truth from the falsehood. But how can she keep a clear head when she thinks she sees the serial killer threatening her at every street corner?
With danger closing in and her own life on the line, Eleanor must race against time to uncover the truth before her own past catches up with her.
