Overview: This is a story of the rapacities of a southern prison camp. Two women, mother and daughter, pause on a southern countryside to give first aid to a man who is evading the guards of a prison from which he has escaped.

They have no sooner discovered that the man receiving their succor is an escaped convict, than the guards, led by their dogs, come upon the scene. They seize not only their rightful prisoner, but the two women who were helping him, and take all three back to their prison camp.

The mother is middle-aged and kindly, but the daughter has made the mistake of being born very beautiful. The infinite tortures to which the regular prisoners are subjected pale beside the tortures of a criminally abandoned sexuality which are visited upon the women.

No one has ever dared describe things like this before but the moral indignation of the author is sufficient justification for the overwhelming incidents which build this book into the most terrifying of its kind ever published. You can judge from the characters: “Fingers”, the Unknown; Leetha Grey, innocent victim of Wallace Blackburn, a polished sexual pervert; “Tush” Braden, illiterate, lustful; Clay N. Beecham, manager of the penal plantation; Lola, mistress of Beecham; Hunter, ruthless sadist; Shara, beautiful creole; and others, whose vices are almost too legible to describe out of their proper context.
