Overview: Stirring Science Stories was a pulp science fiction magazines that published a total of three bi-monthly issues from February to June 1941; one additional issue in June 1942. Stirring Science Stories was edited by Donald A. Wollheim and launched by Albing Publications. Wollheim had no budget at all for fiction, so he solicited stories from his friends among the Futurians, a group of young science fiction fans including James Blish and C.M. Kornbluth. After the initial three issues, due to budget problems the magazine was suspended. Wolheim was able to secure a new publisher for Stirring Science Stories for one additional issue in June 1942, but after that issue wartime paper restrictions ended the magazine permanently. Stirring Science Stories was priced at 15 cents and was 128 pages for the first three issues, and 116 pages for the last issue.
As sort of a companion magazine to Stirring Science Stories, Donald A. Wollheim also edited Cosmic Stories, which was published on alternating months with Stirring Science Stories from March to July 1941.
