The Impossible Horse by Christine Pullein-Thompson
Requirements: .ePUB reader, 0.4 Mb
Overview: Jan has left school and started work schooling difficult horses. Everything is going well, and then she goes hunting and Sonia Stanmore’s new horse, Benedictine, rears and comes over backwards on Sonia. The only people there are Jan and the man she likes, Guy, and they need to rescue Sonia. Sonia’s family are horrified by the accident, and they condemn Benedictine. He is not safe. He must be put down at once. Jan is not so sure Benedictine is as bad as he is painted. She can see why Benedictine acted as he did, and then, when her old riding teacher, who broke in Benedictine, rings pleading with her to take the horse on and save his good name, she reluctantly agrees.

Can Jan prove Benedictine is not an impossible horse? And will Guy notice her and realise there is more to her than just horses?

Originally written by Christine Pullein-Thompson in the 1950s, this was a rare example of romance in a British horse book. Sadly the experiment was never repeated, but the book remains one of her best.

This book is of its time. Hunting was legal, and there is a lot of hunting in this book. There is a particularly upsetting animal death. For this reason we recommend this book for readers over 18.
