Overview: Michael Allan Armstrong was born in Charlottesville, Va., in 1956. Raised in Florida, Armstrong moved to Anchorage in 1979 and to Homer in 1994. He has a bachelor of arts in humanities from New College of Florida and a master of fine arts in creative writing from the University of Alaska Anchorage.
Armstrong worked as a freelance writer for the Anchorage Daily News and taught English, creative writing and dog mushing as an adjunct instructor for UAA. He also has a long career as a writer of science fiction and fantasy, and has published numerous short stories and five novels. He has teaches English through the distance education program of the University of Alaska Anchorage, and has also taught dog mushing and writing. Michael has also worked on archaeological digs in Arctic and south-central Alaska.
He and his wife, Jenny Stroyeck (who is a partner at the Homer Bookstore), live in a small house they built themselves, and have a small sled dog team, a large house dog, and one cat.
