Overview: Donald Allen Wollheim was born on October 1, 1914 in New York City, N.Y. He was a science fiction editor, publisher, writer, and fan. Wollheim founded the highly influential and successful DAW Books in 1972.
A founding member of the Futurians, Wollheim was a leading influence on science fiction development and fandom in the twentieth century. He organized an event later considered the first science fiction convention, when a group from New York met with a group from Philadelphia on October 22, 1936, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Wollheim was married to Elsie Wollheim and they had a daughter, Elizabeth.

Donald Allen Wollheim died on November 2, 1990 in New York City, N.Y.
