Overview: Josephine Mary Howard Saxton was born on June 11, 1935 in Halifax, Yorkshire, England. She is the daughter of dentist Ernest Howard and of Clarice Lavinia (née Crowther). She attended Clare Hall County Secondary School and studied at Halifax College of Art and Craft.
After graduating, Saxton became a teacher before turning to fiction writing fulltime. Her first published story was “The Wall” for the November 1965 issue of Science Fantasy.
In 1958, Saxton married the artist Geoffrey Banks, with whom she has a son. After divorcing him, she married Colin Saxton in 1962, also an artist with whom she has a son and a daughter. That marriage also ended in divorce in 1983.
Josephine Saxton died on May 10, 2023 in Oxfordshire, England.
