At twenty-five years old, I have been running the retirement home I inherited from my grandmother Tilly for the last five years. I love my job, my residents, my family and my town. Although, with my family travelling out the country this Christmas and memories of my grandmother being more prevalent as her favorite soap opera plays in the background of the home, I can’t help but wonder if something in my life is missing.
To feel closer to Tilly, I decide to complete one of her favorite Christmas activities; writing Christmas cards. When I get to the last card, I wonder who I should write to. When suddenly, I know. I will send a letter to our favorite soap opera actor to tell him how much he means to the residents. I know he’ll probably receive hundreds, but maybe mine will make him smile. Even if just for a few seconds.

This Christmas in my empty L.A. home, I open fan mail as my agent drones on about my next project in Australia. I’m not listening, though. I’m reading letters from my fans with the typical comments and requests for gifts or show merchandise. That it is until I read an incredibly thoughtful and kind letter from a woman that works at a retirement home in Washington state. Her heartfelt words are exactly what I need to hear and the only way I can think of properly thanking her for Christmas is to thank her in person!
