Overview: It is late Spring and Taylor Redmond is enjoying life in the lovely town of Bend, Oregon. She lives with her twelve-year-old daughter, Zoe, in a quaint cottage next to the bucolic town park. Her mother lives nearby in the family home, and Taylor enjoys her teaching position at the local college and hopes for a professorship. Taylor watches her daughter mature to become a lovely young lady. Zoe hopes to attend summer camp in the nearby hamlet of Sister, Oregon.
Taylor’s mother is long-term friends with the Monroe family, who own a local real estate firm. Their son, Mike, is Taylor’s old crush from high school days. She had one memorable school dance with him when he, a football hero, came up to her, a skinny, shy freshman, and asked her to dance, then took her out for pizza. That night was magical and after all these years Taylor still cherishes the memory. Now Mike is single, a wounded army veteran, and works part-time with the Bend police department. He lives on a small ranch a short way out of town. He is a published author and, as luck would have it, is taking Taylor’s college creative writing class. They have rekindled their friendship, and Mike invites Taylor and Zoe to his ranch to ride his horses. It was a wonderful, clear day to visit the ranch, just how she imagined a perfect ranch to be with tall trees and a golden simmering vista across the range. Taylor and her daughter enjoy the ride and especially being with Mike. He’s a quiet, strong man who treats the two with affection. She confides in her mother about her feelings for Mike and she advises Taylor to follow her heart.
