Overview: Luna and her perfectly gorgeous, sexy, and loving Mate Eternal, Raj, couldn’t be happier.
The hated Velli-Machs were stranded on Zorion with no chance of escape, the Balaru were settling in on a new planet of their own, and best of all, they’ve had two whole weeks to bask in the joy of parenthood. But, as always, that pesky little thing called life, or fate, or destiny, can’t be ignored forever. Or for very long.
Luna now dreams every night of the three moons she first saw during her dream meeting with Cloud Leaper of the Balaru, and she doesn’t know why. She doesn’t know why they’re starting to change color, either. While Artemia isn’t answering any of her questions on that subject, she’s definitely giving her plenty of nudges and whispers on other subjects. Such as the fertility issue plaguing Kyun females for millennia. And all of the Velli-Mach data going back thousands of years which the Balaru copied before destroying all tech on Zorion. What the two issues could possibly have in common is a mystery, but Luna asks for a copy of it anyway. One doesn’t ignore a goddess, after all.
In the meantime, it seems that a viewing ceremony must take place in order to introduce the new prince of the S’atni line to a crowd of dignitaries from across the Five Galaxies. Luna isn’t thrilled about it, especially since she isn’t fully recovered from some complications that took place after giving birth. Since she can’t fight tradition, she focuses on getting back into fighting shape instead. Just in case.
Then Luna stumbles over an unexpected hint hiding an even more unexpected secret in her mother’s journal. A secret that starts Luna and Raj on a carefully crafted trail of hints and clues toward something. They have no idea what or why, and Artemia isn’t helping on this matter, either. Since Khyrna clearly put some effort into creating the trail, they know it’s got to be something important. As it turns out, it’s more important than they could ever have guessed. And yet, for Luna, the importance of what they find pales a bit when she discovers a far more personal and utterly devastating secret at the same time.
With a lot of help from her family, and the unwavering love of her Mate Eternal, she works through her grief, and they turn their attention to the semi-formal greeting of the invited dignitaries set to take place two days before the viewing ceremony. Luna is especially glad that she’s back in fighting form since she’s the only one who can actually see the Thl’co wraiths who attempt to kill Matriarch and High King Thune. With help from her Mate Eternal and Sitka, her four legged best friend, none of them are harmed, and the person responsible is caught. Luna discovers a couple of things that trouble her, though. One being how much her friend Neo resembles the evil granddaughter of the queen of the wraiths.
Then Raj and Luna have to face the actual viewing ceremony itself. As bad as the semi-formal greeting was, the ceremony is worse. Within minutes of their entrance Raj is stabbed by one of the guests with a knife coated in a particularly nasty poison. There’s only one way to save both Raj’s life, and her own, and that’s for Luna to literally hold his soul in place long enough for him to heal. Along with a portion of his pain. And there are no guarantees that it’ll work.
