Overview: “… Picture a solid cube.
See its six sides; roll them over in your mind like a die in your hand. Feel the eight corners as sharp as the points of eight pocket knives, sharp enough to prick your skin, to make the blood run in tiny, warm rivulets down the length of your fingers. Run your imaginary fingers along the edges of this cube, down each one of its twelve edges, and feel on the tips of your wounded fingers the terrible cutting contrast of the angles with the smooth, glacial, searingly cold expanse of the four sides, the top, and the bottom. But which is the top, the bottom, the sides? It’s all of a oneness. Or maybe the imaginary, dangerous cube you hold in your mind is a die. If it is, feel the pockmarks; count them. But don’t roll it. This die is for gambling, all right, but not with money. It’s for wagering with lives, maybe even yours. They don’t call it a “die” for nothing…”
