Overview: Going International is a topic-based upper-intermediate course for people training for and employed in the tourism industry. It introduces, reviews, and extends the key language and communication skills which students need to develop in order to work effectively in this challenging international sector. Each of the twelve units focuses on a core topic area, including travel agency, tour operation, transport, promotion and marketing, guiding, and future developments in the tourism industry. In the Student’s Book, language and skills are introduced through a range of reading and listening tasks from authentic sources. These lead to a variety of practical output tasks which enable students to develop these skills through activities and situations associated with their work. The language syllabus focuses on key grammar and functional language and there is a strong emphasis on vocabulary development. Each unit has at least one language focus section supported by pronunciation and vocabulary work. This Workbook extends the language work contained in the Student’s Book, offering a range of exercises and activities for further practice in the classroom or for self-study. In addition to this Workbook, the course consists of a Student’s Book, an audio cassette, and a Teacher’s Resource Book, which contains comprehensive teaching notes, an answer key, ideas for adapting and extending activities, and extra photocopiable resource materials.
