Overview: Charlotte Wellard is the pen name of the author who lives on a small farm of seventy acres in Tasmania, Australia. On the property, we bred Dexter cows, raised a teenage family and bought six sheep for Jemma, the Border Collie. As they say, what’s a sheep dog without sheep? Jemma lived to 17, worked both sheep and cattle. Now, we have Bonnie, a lovely Smithfield – a Tasmanian working dog – who has no interest in anything other than birds, particularly the ‘turbo chook’ (Tasmanian native hen), and potoroos, a small kangaroo-like marsupial.
During our marriage of half a century, we’ve lived in England, the Netherlands and Brunei, as well as Newcastle, New South Wales. We’re extremely fortunate to have all our four children – two daughters and two sons – living nearby, together with our grandsons (no granddaughters, sigh!).
