Overview: The Albright family is falling apart.
Years of familial neglect and unaddressed issues in a failing marriage have left Matthew and Alejandra Albright on the brink of divorce, with their children caught in the middle. A Hawaiian vacation is their last-ditch attempt to save their broken family, and no one really believes it will work.
Plans change, however, when they are chased by pirates into a magical storm and wind up shipwrecked on an uncharted island. They soon discover the island is full of fantasy monsters, broken magic systems and the remnants of an ancient ruined civilization. With nowhere else to turn and no other options, the Albrights must figure out how to survive the dangers of the island, learn to harness the magic of the broken system, and somehow build a new life in this hostile new land.
But the needs of the present do not heal the scars of the past. Their family is still splintered, the hurts still fresh, the grievances still unaired. If they are going to survive the dangers of their new home, the Albrights must repair the damage of years and learn once again what it means to truly be a family.
Preferably before the island eats them alive.
