Overview: IT HAD RAINED STEADILY ALL NIGHT, A HEAVY DOWNPOUR WITH fierce gusts of wind rattling doors and shattering windowpanes. Soon, Bombay was paralyzed by a cyclone of unprecedented fury, as gales swept across the battered city and mighty waves broke over the sea walls. The next morning presented a spectacle of devastation. Trees had been uprooted and were strewn across the streets blocking traffic, benches had been torn off and boulders displaced. Train services were suspended. There was no power supply and with the city virtually immobilized, its citizens were all indoors. Certainly, none of its glamorous film stars ventured out that morning. Only one intrepid soul saw no reason to make this day an exception and stay away from work. She had to report for a shooting that morning and report she did. The studio was flooded, its furniture and equipment standing in water and except for an amazed watchman rubbing his eyes in disbelief, there was no one around.
