As Danny follows the trail from the motel to the island, from abandoned rooms to back roads and forgotten witnesses, the story he has lived with since 1982 starts falling apart. The five teenagers who once repeated the same account were never telling the same truth. They were repeating the truth they had been taught to survive.
And someone in Lake Mercy is still willing to kill to keep it that way.
