Fixing Sacred Spells Is Heresy, So I Opened a Repair Shop by Trio Stars (Fixing Sacred Spells Is Heresy 1)
Requirements: .ePUB reader, 1.2 mb
Overview: One deleted word. 41,286 condolence letters. Nobody had actually died.
Marcus Lee was the fastest junior developer at Mercy Ridge Hospital, right up until his quick little cleanup told forty-one thousand families that their loved ones had died in the night. He was fired by lunchtime. On the walk home, he stepped in front of a delivery van.
Now he’s Lucan Brightwater, the town’s most promising drunk, waking up on the floor of a spell repair shop in the river city of Saltmere. His father is dead. His sister Agnes can barely look at him. And a very polite moneylender named Master Quill wants 2,500 crowns in ninety days, or the shop is his.
Lucan has exactly one thing going for him. In Saltmere, magic is written in the Canon, an ancient script that everyone treats as sacred and nobody understands. Lucan can read it. And it’s code. Badly written, copied-wrong, held-together-with-prayers code.
The light spell runs the same line three times. The stove wastes two-thirds of its heat. A family sword has been bellowing a war song ever since somebody’s great-grandfather wanted it louder for parades. Lucan can fix all of it.
The trouble is that changing a single mark of the Canon is heresy.
With the Canon Office watching, the Scribes’ Guild furious, and Quill smiling far too kindly, Lucan has to save the shop without anyone finding out what he can do. But the city’s oldest spells are starting to wear out, and he may be the only person alive who can read what’s going wrong.
Read every line. Test your things. And try not to set anything on fire.
