Overview: It was supposed to be simple. Infiltrate the ruin, take the map, and don’t get eaten by monsters on the way back. Simple, not easy. Nothing that involves exploring the ever-shifting realm of magic and monsters known as the Bleed ever is, in Marek’s considerable experience.
Still, a new rival with a small army of hired killers wasn’t part of the plan. Neither was getting ambushed and nearly killed before he set foot in the frontier city of Harrowgate. Only the “miraculous” intervention of the spirit he forged a pact with to begin his career as an adventurer, the one his family and quite a few priests warned him not to bargain with, saved him, and now she’s taken up residence in his body
On the bright side, she’s promised she doesn’t want to possess him. Not as long as his passions satisfy her abstract appetites, at least.
And then there’s the princess whose schemes brought him here in the first place. A lovely young woman with a smile as sweet and lethal as poisoned honey. It’s hard to tell where her sense of duty to her homeland begins and her private ambition begins, but two things are certain: she’ll do almost anything to accomplish her goals and has half the city wrapped around her finger.
It’s a good thing they’re on the same side, though whether she sees him as a knight or a pawn remains to be seen.
Nothing about the road ahead seems simple or easy, but perhaps, if this powerful yet unstable party can claim the prize that rests near the bleeding wound between worlds before their murderous rival, they all just might get more than they bargained for.
