Overview: Everyone at Haven fears the patient behind the mask. They should be afraid of Haven.
When twenty-three-year-old James is sent to fix a burst pipe at a crumbling psychiatric hospital, he encounters Mika, the facility’s most unsettling patient. Committed since she was sixteen, she hasn’t spoken in seven years, hiding behind an intricate wooden mask that keeps everyone at a distance.
Then, the first time they’re alone, she breaks her silence.
Insisting she doesn’t belong, Mika begs for his help. But the deeper he digs, the more disturbing the truth becomes. Staff are hiding secrets. Patients are becoming increasingly erratic. A string of unsolved murders appears to trace back to the hospital. And beneath it all lies a seemingly dormant cult whose reach extends far past the walls of Haven Psychiatric.
Soon James is plagued by vivid nightmares and hallucinations he can no longer dismiss. As his bond with Mika deepens and his grip on reality begins to fracture, he must uncover what happened at Haven seven years ago—and decide how much of what he’s seeing he can still trust.
If he can’t unravel Mika’s past and break Haven’s hold on him, he may lose more than his sanity. He may lose his only chance to get her out alive.
