Overview: Georges Simenon was born on 12 February 1903 in Liège, Belgium, and died in 1989 in Lausanne, Switzerland, where he had lived for the latter part of his life. The Blue Room was completed in 1963 and is one of the last novels Simenon wrote in Échandens castle in Switzerland, where he lived from 1957–1963. All his typescripts from this period were datelined ‘Noland’, his nickname for the peaceful, unassuming village which had become his home.
