Overview: Aron is the richest man in the world, so you’d think he could get whatever he wants. Well, all he wants is an infinitely powerful, immortal artificial intelligence that will subjugate humanity forever, and he hasn’t gotten it yet. He wants it for its own sake, of course, who wouldn’t, but also because it’s long been a shared dream of his with his best bro Blue Andrew, who’s been acting more distant lately. But Aron’s getting closer to success — as long as he keeps feeding the Throbbing Pyramind properly seasoned bodies.
All Echo wants is to set aside a small patch of land on the family farm for a possum habitat, because she loves possums and wants more of them in her life. But when her father refuses her on her twenty-first birthday and is evasive about why, she takes a consolation gift of a trip to the nation’s capital to volunteer and try to contribute something so big that no one would dream of denying her a possum habitat ever again.
Senator Flabskull of the opposition party (Flabskull is an unimaginably ancient being, but it pleases him to be a senator for now) just wants nice springy bodies to nosh on. (And to play his lithophone for an audience.) Flabskull generally gets what he wants, so no worries there.
Ultimately, whether Aron or Echo get what they want just might come down to whether Vice-Resident Jade Maggitt gets what he wants — for someone finally, at long last, to tie him up and spank him properly.
