Overview: Derek Ivor Colin Kapp was born on April 3, 1928 in Southwark, London to John L.F. Kapp and Annie M.A. (née Towner).
Kapp was an electronics engineer, who began his career with Mullard Electronics then specialised in electroplating techniques, eventually becoming a freelance consultant engineer. As a hobby, he began writing sf, publishing his first story, “Life Plan” for the November 1958 in New Worlds Science Fiction.
