Overview: Wright began publishing SF with “Operation Exodus” for New Worlds in January 1952. His ‘Johnny Dawson’ series in New Worlds, about intrigues between Earth and the planet Luther—beginning with “Fair Exchange” (New Worlds, January 1955) – were partly assembled in Assignment Luther. The further series episodes “Joker’s Trick” (New Worlds, July 1959 ) and “The Jarnos Affair” (New Worlds, April 1960) remain uncollected. His final magazine appearance was the novella “A Task for Calvi” (Science Fiction Adventures UK, May 1963).
Wright had earlier begun publishing magazine-published novels beginning with “Who Speaks of Conquest?” and ending with “The Pictures of Pavanne” about dysfunctional human who is obsessed by a mysterious work of art on a distant planet that revolves around a double sun.
John Thomas Phillifent was born on November 10, 1916 in Durham, County Durham, U.K. to parents Thomas Phillifant and Ann Susan Ham. He was an English electrical engineer and author of science fiction and fantasy. He wrote as John T. Phillifent and under the pen name John Rackham.
