Overview: Before the dawn of AI, Software Development was a constant growth career. It still is, but the tools changed over night! Now it’s not just your knowledge that needs to grow, but also your skill with the tools! While video courses can be great, nothing beats practice! This book collects 10 simple exercises to hone your agentic development and context engineering. How far can you get in 10 Days? Designed around small, simple exercises, this 10-Day Challenge provides interested developers with approachable actions to own their growth. Each exercise is designed to allow you to grow in small steps taking 15-30 minutes a day, ideal for working it into a busy work schedule. Not all growth is created equal. Practice trumps lecture. And in the Age of AI, Growth as a Developer depends on knowing how to use the tools well! This challenge focuses on the basics of Agentic Development: Context Engineering, and Task Identification! So let’s dive deep and hone our craft! How far can you get with 10 Days? The easiest path is to install an Agentic IDE, such as Windsurf, Cursor or Rider at the time of writing. However those only offer limited ‘free’ options, so choose wisely. You could always go with Big-Brother, I mean, Microsoft/Github Copilot, and it may be a good option. Just integrate it into your instance of VSCode. In any case you can select one of those, but each has the same limitation: It must be connected to the internet to work. The other option you have is to run the model yourself. For this, I’d recommend installing LM Studio, which will allow you to download models, and then host them on a local Ollama server. But doing so has costs of it’s own. When you use a cloud-model, you don’t have to pay the computing cost yourself. When you host the Ollama server localling, you’re having to manage that complexity. But, as a trade-off, you gain more control. AND your code doesn’t have to leave your network.
