Overview: Russell M. Griffin (Russell Morgan Griffin; 29 April 1943 – 27 August 1986) was an American science fiction novelist and academic from Stamford, Connecticut. Active chiefly in the late 1970s–1980s, he published four SF novels—The Makeshift God (1979), Century’s End (1981), The Blind Men and the Elephant (1982) and The Time-Servers (1985)—and a number of short stories and essays. His work often mixed near-future social satire, dark humor and speculative exploration of identity (cloning, artificial minds, and cultural collapse). Griffin’s premature death in 1986 curtailed a promising career.
