Overview: Against All Odds – The Film Star and the German Officer
Paris during the German occupation: Theatre and film star Arletty, unforgettable as Garance in “Children of Paradise,” falls in love with German officer Hans Jürgen Soehring, a lawyer who tried his hand at writing after the war, later became a diplomat, and tragically lost his life as ambassador to the Republic of Congo. The two are bound by a passionate affair under the hostile gaze of their fellow French citizens and the German occupying forces. But even a performance ban, house arrest, and demotion after the liberation cannot harm their love. Arletty, blind for the last twenty years of her life, died at a very advanced age in 1992.
A glamorous Franco-German story of love and war, which Klaus Harpprecht tells with great passion and elegance.
