Overview: Stanislaus Eric, Count Stenbock (1860-1895), was a Swedish-born poet and writer known for his contributions to the Decadent movement of the late 19th century. He was born on March 12, 1860, in Stockholm, Sweden, and was descended from an aristocratic family of Swedish and Estonian heritage.
Count Stenbock’s works were not widely recognized during his lifetime, and he lived much of his life in obscurity and struggled with personal challenges. However, his writings gained a cult following in the 20th century, with his unique blend of Gothic atmosphere, decadent aesthetics, and preoccupation with death and the supernatural appealing to later generations of readers and scholars.
This edition collects four stories, “The Child of the Soul,” “La Girandola,” “A Modern St. Venantius” and “The Story of a Scapular,” all previously unpublished, plus facsimiles of three letters from Count Stenbock to Norman O’Neill. With an introduction by David Tibet. Published by Durtro Press, London, 1999. Limited edition of 500 copies.
