Math & Python – Level 3 (Math & Python Textbook Book 4) by Hideaki Miyoshi, Geraldine Angaga Lickas
Requirements: .PDF reader, 10 MB
Overview: This book was written to help you learn two powerful basic skills at the same time: “Mathematics,” and “Python” (programming) to make it work in the real world. By combining the logical thinking of math with the creative power of programming, abstract formulas turn into real tools you can actually “touch and move.” Welcome to Level 3. Our first star is the sequence — a list of numbers in order. A monthly savings balance, a colony of bacteria, points that grow in steps — record any change in the world as “first, second, third, …” and a sequence appears. The chapter unfolds in three stages. Stage one: find the pattern and turn it into a formula. For arithmetic sequences (keep adding the same number) and geometric sequences (keep multiplying by the same number), we build the “general term” — a formula for term n in terms of the number n. Stage two: add in bulk. We derive the sum formulas and learn the Σ (sigma) notation that writes a long sum as a single symbol. Stage three: study how sequences are built. Difference sequences expose hidden patterns, recurrence relations define a sequence by a “make the next term from the previous one” rule, and mathematical induction proves statements “for every n.” In Level 3 we follow each computation step by step, with plenty of diagrams. The Python stars are SymPy’s Sum and summation (computing Σ) and rsolve (a solver for recurrence relations). Lists and for loops also make a comeback — if the syntax feels rusty, Appendix 1 at the back of the book is your cheat sheet.
