Overview: June Millichamp Kruse (commonly known as Karen Anderson) was born on September 16, 1932 in Erlanger, Kentucky; a suburb of Cincinnati, Ohio.
In 1953, Anderson married author Poul William Anderson and moved with him to the San Francisco Bay area. Their daughter Astrid (now married to science fiction author Greg Bear) was born in 1954. Over the years, she co-wrote a number of short stories and novelletes; as well as seven novels with her husband.
Anderson was the first person to use the term filk music in print; she also wrote the first published science fiction haiku (or scifaiku), “Six Haiku” for the July 1962 issue of The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction.
Karen Anderson died on March 17, 2018 in Sunland-Tujunga, Los Angeles, California.
