It’s this dumb, supernatural bureaucracy that locked down kin like her with audits, red tape, and enforcers—all of it bound by rules written by ancient powers who see folks like me as useful idiots and djinn like her as dangerous, restricted inventory.
Now I’m down to my last wish, and the only thing clearer than my feelings for that blue-skinned, smart-mouthed djinni is the cost of using it. If I choose DJ over fear and free her from the damn system that brought her to me… I might draw the attention of arcane forces that keep kin like her in chains and lose her forever.
I’ll be damned if I let that happen without a fight.
