Overview: E. R. James (born Ernest Rayer James; 1920–2012) was an English author whose creative footprint spanned the mid-to-late 20th century. Born in Gloucestershire, England, James pursued his passion for writing in the English language, occasionally exploring various subgenres and perspectives under pen names such as Somerset Draco, Edward Hannah, and Ernest R. James.
Deeply embedded in a literary family, he was notably the cousin of fellow speculative fiction writer Francis G. Rayer. Over a lifetime that bridged nearly a century—witnessing immense social, technical, and cultural changes from 1920 to 2012, – James maintained an active connection to his readers and community through his personal writings and online presence.
