Overview: The Roman: Son of Subura
He was not born a soldier. He was forged by Rome.
Marcus Flavius is just a poor young man from the dangerous streets of Rome’s Subura district, struggling each day to keep his widowed mother and younger sister alive. When poverty leaves him with no future, he makes the only choice that can change his destiny—he joins the Roman legion.
Thrown into a world of relentless discipline, brutal training, and impossible expectations, Marcus soon finds himself marching beneath the Eagle of Legio XII alongside thousands of soldiers following Julius Caesar into the unknown lands of Gaul. What begins as a desperate search for survival quickly becomes a journey through fear, sacrifice, brotherhood, and war.
As the Helvetii gather for one of the first great conflicts of Caesar’s Gallic campaigns, Marcus discovers that the enemy is not the monster he imagined, that every victory comes at a terrible cost, and that becoming a Roman legionary demands far more than learning how to fight.
