The Nameless School by Arthur Glenwood (The Level One Bookshop Book 3)
Requirements: .ePUB reader, 1.5 mb
Overview: Edwin Salamand has finally gotten the hang of running a bookshop. The winter trouble is behind him, spring has thawed Starwick, and his shelves have never been better stocked. Then a young scout named Wren walks behind his counter, pays off a debt he’s never heard of, and asks what happened to Old Brant.
It turns out the drawings in the back of Brant’s old ledger are a slate. For years, Brant let students from the Nameless School, a scrappy little school for scouts, take their first skill tome on credit and pay him back after their first job. Edwin has only ever heard bad things about the Nameless School. He keeps the slate going anyway.
Because lending a few tomes to some teenagers has got to be simple, right?
Soon his tea nook is packed with students who haggle over every copper and practice lockpicking on his storeroom door. Worse, the only way they can find paid work is through Ambrose Pell, a polished broker in Guild Alley who sells them flashy tomes on credit and takes his share of every job first. Somehow, their debts never seem to get any smaller.
With hiring day coming up fast, Edwin needs to get his students in front of the adventuring parties without Pell. That means pairing street-smart scouts with the City Guard’s greenest recruits, calling on the party leaders Sherry knows from her mercenary days, and convincing one very proud student named Latch to accept help from anyone at all.
