Betrayed by the Hero’s Party, I Became the Demon Lord’s Healer by Judd Lowry
Requirements: .ePUB reader, 1.3 mb
Overview: The heroes needed a medic. Then they needed bait.
Jack Callaway was an army medic for ten years. When a roadside bomb flipped his truck in Afghanistan, a light pulled his whole squad into another world, and the church that summoned them handed out the marks. His best friend got the Hero’s sword. Jack got Healer. A potion that walks, the priests called him.
Three weeks later, in a burning marsh with the enemy a minute behind, his best friend did the math. Four or five. The Knight put a knife in Jack’s leg, and the party walked away.
Then the demons found him.
Healer.
Jack can pull any wound out of a body, even the holy burns and stone curses nobody in this world can treat. But every wound he takes, he carries. And what he carries, he can pour back into an enemy with one touch.
The healer the heroes threw away has become the most dangerous man on the line.
Virane commands the Ninth. Huge, white-haired, laughing in a fight, with a sword arm the church turned to stone. She took him prisoner because a Called man is worth a fort. She’s starting to want him for other reasons.
Ombrine is the Lady’s spymaster, a succubus who reads every desire in the room. Every one but his. When he touches her, she goes deaf. She has never wanted anything so badly in her life.
Mirelle was the party’s priestess. She watched them leave him in the reeds and said nothing. Now she has walked through the marsh on fire to say it to his face.
And the Lady of Varkesh, the Demon Lord herself, sits perfectly still on her stone seat, because under her high collar the Hero’s sword is still cutting her. Only Jack knows. Only Jack can carry it out of her.
His old squad wants her dead so they can go home. The church has put a price on his head. And on Wall Night, when the Lady must stand on the wall where the whole line can see her, the Hero is coming back with a siege lamp, a strike team and the sword that wounded her.
