Overview: The use of house names was at its most extreme and most devious at the Ziff-Davis magazines edited by Raymond A Palmer: Amazing Stories, Fantastic Adventures, Fantastic, Imagination, Imaginative Tales. To further this rouse, Palmer would often create fictitious biographies for the house names and published them in the magazine issues.
The house name “Gerald Vance” was used by authors Randall Garrett, Chester S. Geier, Charles Eric Maine, William P. McGivern, David Wright O’Brien, Rog Phillips, Richard S. Shaver, Robert Silverberg and Henry Slesar.
Of the thirty-six stories written under the “Gerald Vance” house name, seventeen have never been attributed to a any author.
