Overview: Turning eighteen is supposed to mean freedom. For Aidan Byrne, it means being hunted by things that should have stayed dead.
Aidan Byrne has enough problems. He’s a first-year history student in Dublin, his coursework is piling up, and he’s spent the last ten years wondering what happened to his father, who vanished without a trace on the cliffs of Donegal.
Then, on Halloween night, a seven-foot monster crawls out of the darkness and tries to kill him.
Things get considerably worse from there.
It turns out the old Irish legends aren’t just stories. The Tuatha D Danann, the Fomorians, the ancient wars fought over Ireland. All of it happened. And thanks to a bloodline nobody bothered to tell him about, Aidan has inherited the powers of Lugh, one of the greatest warriors of the old gods.
Unfortunately, he’s also inherited Lugh’s enemies.
With a sword-wielding girl named Maeve and a best friend who’s been keeping a rather significant secret about his hooves, Aidan is thrown into a world hidden beneath modern Ireland. A world of ancient magic, dangerous creatures, forgotten gods, and a war that never really ended.
Somewhere beneath the sea, an enemy is searching for a way to break the seals that have held the Fomorians prisoner for centuries. And Aidan’s blood might be exactly what he needs.
To survive, Aidan will have to learn to control powers he barely understands, uncover the truth about his father’s disappearance, and decide just how much he’s willing to risk for people he loves.
He’d really rather be worrying about his sociology essay.
Packed with Irish mythology, action, mystery, friendship, and plenty of humour, Aidan Byrne: Heir of the Sun is a modern fantasy adventure where the old gods are very real, the monsters are getting restless, and being descended from a legend is nowhere near as much fun as it sounds.
