Overview: Martha Clare Soukup was born on July 20, 1959 in Aurora, Illinois. She attended the Clarion science fiction writing workshop in 1985, which resulted in the publication of her first story, “Dress Rehearsal” in the 1986 science fiction anthology Universe 16. After which, she became part of a small group of new authors dedicated to writing only short fiction. Although she was a multi-nominated and award-winning author during her short career—having published only thirty-four works of short fiction—she gave up writing in 1998 and has not been active since.
