Overview: David Henry Keller was born on December 23, 1880 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He graduated from the School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in 1903. He served as a neuropsychiatrist in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during World Wars I and II and specifically treated shell-shock during World War I.
Although a significant and influential author of the “Golden Age” of science fiction in the 1920s and 1930s, Keller started out writing recreationally; having written thirteen novels and at least fifty short stories before he considered publishing. He published his first science fiction story, “The Revolt of the Pedestrians” for the February 1928 issue of Amazing Stories. In 1938, he published his first stand-alone novel (as opposed to magazine-published novels and serials), The Sign of the Burning Hart. A large number of his early short fiction was published under the pseudonym Amy Worth.
David H. Keller died on July 13, 1966 in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania.
